Athletic Supervisor

Full Time: 40 hours per week
Salary: $35,000

GENERAL PURPOSE
Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises a variety of youth and adult athletic and fitness programs; travel teams, leagues and tournaments. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct supervision received from the Director of Recreation and/or Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Athletic / Recreation / Fitness Coordinators, Program Aides, Athletic / Fitness Instructors, League Supervisor, Site Supervisors, Scorekeepers, Sports Camp Staff and Floaters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, organizes, promotes, administers and evaluates athletic and fitness programs for youth and adults.
  • Supervises classes, clinics, workshops and activities for youth and adult athletic and fitness programs.
  • Develops and manages specific lesson plans, structure and itinerary for various youth, adult athletic and fitness programs.
  • Responsible for the management, coordination, planning and implementation of the VPD Youth Basketball League.
    Manages and supervises athletic youth and adult partnerships leagues.
    Approves game schedules and umpires for adult leagues and tournaments.
  • Coordinates athletic programs, registers teams, collects fees, assigns practice times, distributes and collects uniforms.
    Schedules games and umpires for a variety of youth leagues and tournaments.
  • Schedules and runs various tournaments throughout the year for a variety of sports, youth and adult, such as, softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc.
    Secures and schedules use of VPD facilities, fields, turf and gymnasiums for practices, games, classes, programs and leagues
    Responsible for the management of the field and turf rentals requests.
  • Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, approves staff payroll and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Athletic department and Fitness Programs.
  • Assists with hiring, recruiting, and training of part time staff and instructors.
    Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
    Develops and implements specific goals and objectives related to the supervision, management and marketing of the Athletic Department and Fitness Programs.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
  • Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
  • Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
  • Accountable for monthly Athletic Board Reports and prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision making purposes.
  • Utilize RecTrac to monitor and report on turf/facility rentals, revenues, trends and key deviations on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for pursuing, developing, and maintaining collaborative relationships, partnerships with community athletic affiliates and rental groups.
  • Responsible for the marketing, promotion and operation of the athletic and fitness department, turf and batting cages.
  • Prepares for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, flyers, posters, news release and related communications regarding athletic and or fitness programs.
  • Responds to public inquiries about athletic and fitness programs made by telephone, correspondences, or during public meetings.
  • Determines material, equipment, facility, supervision or instruction needs for each activity or program and coordinates with other staff members.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the youth athletic/ fitness equipment and storage areas.
  • May instruct and teach various tot, youth, adult athletic and fitness programs.
    Serves as the Co-Director of Annual Softball and Bocce tournament, responsible for the management and supervision of tournament operations.
  • Represents the Athletic Department as Community liaison.

Special Recreation Aide

Job Type: Seasonal
Salary: $10 per hour

Description:
The Special Recreation Aide will assist individuals with disabilities in Recreation Programs at Veterans Park District. The Aide will ensure the safety of participants at all times and will actively participate in programs. The aide may be expected to work evenings and weekend programs as scheduled by the Special Recreation Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to communicate effectively written and orally.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Display excellent communications and organizational skills.
  • One year experience working with individuals with special needs.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.

Cimbalo Fitness Customer Service Representative

Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $10 per hour

Responsible for club membership and program registration, club members and guest check-in, and customer questions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handles all incoming calls and inquiries.
  • Greets customers and members upon entering and existing the facility.
  • Check in members and verify membership.
  • Registers guests and collect guest fees.
  • Makes court reservations and collect fees.
  • Promotes, registers and collects all fees for: Club Leagues; Club Tournaments, Club Clinics and lessons, Fitness /Aerobic Classes including Fitness Club Special Events and VPD programs.
  • Completes membership enrollment process with new members including paperwork and entering all membership data into the computer and registers members for programs and special events.
  • Processes membership payments, cancellations, renewals and freezes as directed by the Fitness Club Director.
  • Keeps desk and lobby straightened and clean at all times.
  • Keeps registration area and office supplies, district wide posters/flyers, and all forms stocked at all times.
  • Maintains an efficient filing and records system by utilizing RecTrac and cabinet files.
  • Periodically, throughout the day cleans and sanitizes all Fitness Center equipment and machines.
  • Informs management of needed equipment repairs on a timely basis, by conducting weekly equipment checks and inform manager of any issues regarding equipment performance.
  • Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs Fitness Center Director of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Assure that citizen comments/inquiries/complaints and office related comments/inquiries /complaints are handled in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Monitors voicemails and email communication throughout the day.
  • Completes, follows and signs off on all front desk daily check lists.
  • Perform a variety of administrative office duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, registering programs and collecting fees.
  • Become familiar with the administration, cancellation policy, open gym fees, preschool, park rules, pool pass, Facility rentals, refund policy, special events, and various recreation programs.
  • Proficient in RecTrac pertaining to registrations, memberships, reports, refunds, court rentals, payments and procedures.
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone or in person, limited to the information mentioned in the brochure or Veterans Park District promotional material.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School Graduate or equivalent. Three to five years’ experience in supervision within a customer service environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Fitness Instructor

Job Type: Part-time

Salary Depending on Qualifications

Teaches and instructs fitness programs for tots, youth, teens, adults and older adults, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down. Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques and demonstrates exercise. Recreation Coordinator

Job Type: Part Time

Salary: $12 per hour

  • The Recreation Coordinator plans, organizes and coordinates a variety of programs with an emphasis on: creative arts programs, performing arts programs, and special events. May be scheduled up to 27 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend or evenings as needed.
  • This job may lead to a full time position after six months based on performance and results.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program.
  • Must be resourceful, extremely organized, and a self-starter.
  • Knowledge of RecTrac or similar Recreation Software.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one. First Aid and CPR certification.
  • One year or more of recreation programming experience.
  • Associates Degree preferred in recreation or closely related field.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  2. Preschool Lead Teacher

  3. Veterans Park District (Bulger Park) — Melrose Park, IL
  4. Salary: $14.00 per hour
  5. Hours 8 AM to 1 PM (three to five days a week)
  6. Start Date: August 15, 2019

  7. Veterans Park District provides recreational and educational programs for residents of Northlake, Melrose Park, Franklin Park, River Grove, and unincorporated Leyden Township.

  8. The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating age appropriate/detailed lesson plans for Park District Preschool Curriculum and successfully implement the curriculum in the classroom. Direct supervision of the Preschool Teacher Assistant, all students, and all procedures followed in classroom.

  9. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong organization, written, speaking, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work with up to 20 children at a time with an assistant
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Ensures that regular safety inspections/evacuation drills are performed in compliance with DCFS licensing standards.
  • Implements preschool curriculum in the classroom and writes developmentally appropriate/age appropriate lesson plans.
  • Observe, evaluate, and document student growth through individual portfolios and student assessments.
  • Assesses all children and conducts parent/teacher conferences twice a year.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, co-workers, Director through email, phone, and in-person.
  • Participates in all monthly meetings, family nights, and in-service training.
  • Takes monthly inventory of classroom supplies and snacks and submits to Director.
  • Works effectively with others and maintains a positive working relationship with all employees, children, and families.
  • Acts as a mentor and role model for assistant teacher, students, and all other park district staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     
  1. EDUCATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  2. According to DCFS, applicant must have the following credentials: A minimum of an associate degree in child development or early childhood education, or the equivalent (64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development early childhood education or early childhood special education) and either a Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential or 3 semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership, or management.

  3. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Current physical exam, with TB test and proof of MMR and Tdap vaccination (completed by start date of work)
  • Three non-relative references o Official proof of Education o Registry on Gateways to Opportunity and Complete Credential Application (completed at time of employment)
  • Additional DCFS and IDHS Online Required Training (completed at time of employment)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification (within 30 days of employment)
  • Must be fingerprinted through DCFS o Fifteen (15) in-service hours during the school year
